Take An African Lion Safari
Few animals hold the kind of mystique and power over us that the mighty African lion does. The king of the beasts epitomises Africa and it's adventurous nature. So have you ever considered taking and African lion safari?
With the expert guidance of African lion safari tour operators, any dangers that would normally exist in coming face to face with the king of the jungle are lessened dramatically.
An African Lion Experience In Botswana
It is one of several areas in Africa where a lion safari will live forever in your memory.
The Okavango Delta is one of Africa's most beautiful and unique wetland areas. While it abounds with a multitude of wild animals there is no doubt the biggest single attraction is the lion. Africa's most feared predator, the lion is at the top of the food chain and this reason alone is enough for the adventurous types to spend a little time in his domain.
Did You Know?
The female lion is often accredited with the hunting duties among these magnificent beasts and while this is true, did you know that the male lion, despite giving the impression that he lounges around all day, still does his fair share. When it comes to the really big prey like giraffe and buffalo, it's the male lion who has to step up to the plate and get dinner!
African Lion Close Up
For most, seeing a lion close up and personal means a visit to the local zoo but while it is still an invigorating experience, seeing and feeling a lions presence in the wild can only be achieved via an african lion safari. Lions today have found it difficult to survive outside of large conservation areas and programs are currently in place in the Delta to monitor and study their progress.
Are There Any Dangers?
While a guided tour is a great way to enjoy and experience an African lion safari and any dangers are lessened through expert guidance, beginners still need to take heed of some basic lion safety 101. Things like never leaving a vehicle. If your guide tells you it's a dangerous thing to do, you better believe it! Also, winding windows down unsupervised is a no no as is leaving your lodgings alone and walking outside what is generally regarded as safe space. There are a multitude of do's and dont's on a lion safari and the best tip is to listen to your tour leader.
Did You Know?
Lions can gulp down quite a bit of food as you could imagine. Did you know, a male lion can eat up to 45kgs in one sitting. That's a small person! However, averaged out over time and because lions don't eat everyday, the average intake works out to about 8kgs a day
While lions in the wild are dwindling, there are several programs in the world dedicated to preserving this magnificent animal in all it's finery. If an African lion safari takes your fancy then you owe it to yourself to visit your local travel agent who will surely point you in the right direction.
