Traveling light is essential because most times, a safari requires regular moving around and lugging heaps of luggage makes no sense. Take two pair of shoes at the most.

#5.. If your going to be on the move then light clothing is essential. Also pack a sweater because even in summer, temperatures can drop considerably during the evening. Don’t forget to pack a hat – not a cap but a hat which also offers protection for your neckline.

#6.. How’s your physical well being? If you have any ailments then make sure you see your doctor before you leave. If you require medication have plenty of it to take with you. Lodging prices can vary with some offering pricing of under $200 a night per person however, these could be in the minority. A more realistic figure could be $200-$800 per night so if you are planning to visit the Okavango, plan well ahead to take advantage of the cheaper options.

Price aside, if it’s a dream African safari you’re determined to have, then the Okavango Delta is hard to beat.

The African lion’s habitat has been eroded in the name of progress and development but this doesn’t mean you won’t get to see it in all it’s glory.

An African lion safari can take you to several countries and one of the best times to see it in hunting mode is during the famous annual migration of the wildbeest. Amazingly, a hunting safari in Africa is still a doable experience. Mind you, there are many animals you won’t be allowed to go near but hunting trips are still very real.

The African Fauna

Two of the big names in African fauna, the lion and the elephant are most definately off the “target range” and for very good reason. Thanks to indiscrimate practices of years gone by, a hunting safari in Africa no longer means heading to this great land to shoot animals at will.

Due to the endangered status of many African animals, those sorts of safaris are merely a thing of the past. Still, you can expect to hunt exotic creatures like the kudu and the impala while on a hunting safari in Africa. And while you won’t be allowed to shoot at any lions, for those looking to hunt tougher game, you can shoot a cheetah or leopard for your trophy.

Controlled Hunting Atmosphere

Most packages for hunting safaris in Africa include a personal guide, which can be a valuable asset for hunters. African game animals have plenty of natural predators to watch out for, so an experienced hunter can make the difference between a trophy and a miss when you’re going after one of these highly-aware animals. Many companies that offer hunting safaris in Africa also give a guarantee that you’ll get a trophy, since they’re so confident in their guides. And best of all, even if you don’t bag any game while out hunting, you’ll still basically have your own personal guide; most hunting safaris in Africa consist of one or two guides and one or two customers.

An Expensive Exercise?

Keep in mind, it’s not just a matter of jumping on a plane and heading off on a hunting safari in Africa. Apart from immigration requirements, you need to give thought to personal clothing, hygienge and equipment requirements. And then, once you’ve bagged an animal, you often have to pay trophy fees; most hunting packages include a few in the cost, but only for specific animals. If you bag a leopard, for instance, you’ll have to pay a hefty fee on top of what you’ve already spent.

The Lion’s Demise

The african lion’s numbers have been a cause for great concern in recent times in fact, there has even been talk of extinction. Conflict With Man

The African lion has been in conflict with humans and is losing out badly. It’s an unfortunate situation but when progress spreads it’s tentacles there are always going to be casualties. The conflict has arisen because of the new settlement areas being created in Africa. With these new settlements comes livestock and as we know, unlike the normal prey of the lion in it’s natural environment which play hard to get, livestock such as cattle, are pretty docile animals and an easy and inviting temptation for a lion looking for a snack.

The solution to the problem is a little hard to pinpoint but the good news is, there is some very special work going on by people determined to see the African lion survive the next 100 years.

The use of African decor as a means of adding an exotic touch to one’s home seems to be creating plenty of interest. There is more than one forum online dedicated to African safaris and yes, African decor as well.

So what are we talking about? Well, in a nutshell, take a room in your house or, take the whole house and give it some exotic flair. That’s right, give it a touch of African safari! Decor can be anything from ornaments to tools to souvenir weapons such as spears but for decoration purposes only.

Give The Kids A Project

School holiday time can present parents with plenty of challenges especially if they are not heading away during the holidays. When the kids are home finding things for them to do can be a task in itself.

What about a project such as transforming a part of the home into an African safari setting? This could even be an area outside. One of the popular ways parents are helping their kids is to help them decorate their bedrooms with a safari theme.

So where do you start? Well, how about turning a wall into a mural. African animals, a jungle setting or make your own vines from materials bought down at the local Dollar General.

There are any number of ideas. How about traveling to some of the yard sales near your home and looking for toys of African wildlife. Visit the local charity store and see what’s available.

Get hold of some netting and use it as a hummock or hang it from the ceiling and cover it with African decor. Put a couple of safari style hats in the room to give it more of an African feel. Ask your kids for ideas as well. They could do some research online and simply search for all things African decor.

The possibilities are endless and best of all, you’re kids will be doing something creative.

If you take an African Safari Tour with an experienced tour guide, you wont be so highly at risk.  You could take an African Safari through Botswana, where coming almost face-to-face with the golden giant will be branded in your mind for your lifetime.

One of Africa’s unique and beautiful remote wetlands is The Okavango Delta.  They have an abundance of African animals you could see on your tour, and you are almost guaranteed to always see the Lions.  The Lion is wild and free, and is the highest on the food chain.  Anyone who possesses a spirit of adventure would have to be dying to spend time in its midst.

Amongst the Lions, females do look after many of the hunting duties.  It is not uncommon to see the male lion lounging around, but he still does some hunting.  Usually the female catches smaller animals, and the male pounces when it’s too big for her to handle, like giraffes for example.

Don’t live a life where you have only ever seen Lions at the zoo!  Take an African safari you will never regret or forget seeing the lions up close in person.  There are fears in their communities that they may be in trouble due to survival problems in the modern world, and you don’t want to miss out.

You need to always listen to your guide to ensure your safety.  There will be times when they advise you not to exit the vehicle, and you must adhere to this.  You will probably be asked to keep the windows down until advised otherwise, and when at camp, you will need to stay put until permitted.  If you follow all their instructions, you should have a wonderful and memorable experience without any injuries or issues.

A male Lion can eat up to 45kg’s in one meal!  That is 8kg’s on average a day, because they don’t eat daily.  Programs are in place to conserve and preserve the land of the African lions, but there is never going to be a better time than the present to organize a visit.  If you are interested in pursuing your dream for an African Lion Safari experience, see your travel agency for details.
