African Safari Holidays – How To Prepare For A Safari In Africa Vacation
There's little doubt African Safari holidays are the dream of many with a little adventure in their hearts and while they are an exciting vacation, some caution needs to be exercised particularly when preparing for a holiday in mighty Africa.
Preparation includes making sure you have the appropriate clothing, correct documents and you don't overdo the packing. In fact, packing for African safari holidays is an area where most get it wrong. Either they are not advised properly or just don't do enough research but traveling light is highly recommended.
Remember, you're going to spend a lot of time outdoors and the majority of people want to see the wilds of Africa. Traveling with excessive baggage will be a nightmare and if you're involved with a tour group, you could even be embarrassed and forced to off load some baggage because of lack of storage space.
African Safari Holiday Clothing
Recommended clothing should be light garments. Make sure you take clothing that is comfortable to wear and not a hindrance when walking. Likewise, footwear should be the type that will handle plenty of walking. And remember not to take anymore than two pairs of shoes.
Hats are vital because of the hot conditions which can prevail during the day time in most African destinations however, if you're going to be spending a lot of time outdoors and that includes staying in camp sites, a warm sweater is essential because the nights can become extra cold in many places.
Recommended African Safari Holidays
There are many types of African safari holidays but if you have an extra ounce of adventure then two great holidays are walking and riding safaris.
Walking safaris in particular are are great way to experience the African landscape close up. Walking safaris are generally very well organized and more importantly, very much safety conscious. This is such an important of any African holiday involving getting out in the wilds.
Whether you're traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, Tanzania or Zambia, make sure your tour operators are very experienced. It will pay to check with your travel agent and ask them to produce credible references. Yes, it sounds like some extra due diligence but it will make a huge difference in the long run.
Riding safaris like walking safaris are popular African safari holidays. One riding adventure which you may not hear a lot about are elephant safaris. These are just about the ultimate for adventure and again, the same rules apply as above. A well run elephant riding safari is just about the ultimate in African safari holidays.
